Each year recorder and flute students meet at St. James Malvern, a private school which we hire for 5 days in August. It is the most exciting event of the year and one which my grandchildren look forward to the most. This summer will be their 9th. Summer School! I have been on the teaching faculty for 7 years and it is also the highlight of my teaching year.
There is something rather special about the comradeship – each year families return and children find the friends they made last year and it is as if they have never been apart. There is lots of hard work involved in making it a success and the children come well prepared and ready for more work, but mingled in with lots of fun activities, concerts and partying.
